BALAGHAT: A reward-carrying Naxal was killed in an operation launched by security forces in the Harratola forests of Balaghat today.
A joint team of Hawk forces and the District Police forces in Balaghat acting on a tip-off had launched an anti-Maoist operation in the dense forest of Harratola on Sunday. Naxals who were caught opened fire and a fierce encounter took place between the Naxals and the security forces. The slain Naxal who carried a bounty of Rs 12 lakh is identified as Rupesh the guard of Division Commander Kabir alias Surendra an active Naxalite of Kanha Bhoram Dev.
A search operation has been launched in the area. The body of the deceased Naxal has been brought to the HQs and will be handed over to the family following the post-mortem.
