Rewa: Madhya Pradesh is rapidly progressing in the field of solar energy production. The world’s largest Rewa Solar Project has been established and started in the state. This project has been included as a case study by Harvard University. On the other hand, the world’s largest floating solar project of 600 MW capacity is also being developed on the Narmada river, the life-giving river of the region in Omkareshwar. Apart from this, many small and big solar energy projects are also under construction in different parts of the region.
The world’s largest Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Park and Plant located in Madhya Pradesh is being taught in the world’s most renowned Harvard University as an exemplary example of excellent management, operation and solar energy production. Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Plant is not only the world’s largest plant, but is also the world’s cheapest commercial power generation plant. Here electricity is available from Rs 3 to 30 paise per unit.
The journey of the Rewa solar power plant is interesting. It began with the allocation of 275 hectares of land in Badwar village in June 2014. The state government approved the establishment of the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Plant in April 2015. Two months later, Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited was established, in which a 50-50 joint venture was established with M.P. Urja Vikas Nigam and SECI.
After this, 981 hectares of land was allotted in Badwar, Barseta Desh, Barseta Pahad, Anya Pahad, and Ramnagar Pahad villages. By the year 2018-19, barren land available in the village has also been allotted for the project. Supply of electricity to Delhi Metro Railway Corporation started in April 2019. Full commercial production started from January 2020.
