Indore– As the monsoon season arrives, the enchanting heritage train journey through the hills is set to recommence, but with a change in departure point. This year, the train will embark from Patalpani instead of Mhow, offering nature enthusiasts a delightful travel experience. To ensure convenient access to Patalpani, authorities are devising a plan to operate city buses from Indore, ensuring a steady stream of passengers for the heritage train. Initially, the city bus service will run twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays, possibly expanding to a daily service if required.
The railways will replace the existing meter gauge line to lay a broad gauge line between Mhow and Sanawad. Consequently, the heritage train, which commenced its operations five years ago but had to halt its Mhow route, will now cover a 10-kilometer stretch between Patalpani and Kalakund starting in July. Repairing roads leading to Patalpani is also underway, facilitating easy access for travelers. Visitors can reach Patalpani by vehicle and embark on the scenic heritage train journey.
Shankar Lalwani, Member of Parliament, reveals plans to introduce a city bus service from Indore to ensure sufficient passenger occupancy for the heritage train. Discussions with officials are slated to focus on the necessary arrangements. The railway authorities are conducting trial runs between Patalpani and Kalakund, as the future of operations depends on the passenger response.
The track from Patalpani to Kalakund was designated as a heritage track in 2018, leading to the inception of the state’s sole heritage train. Since its introduction, the Mhow to Patalpani-Kalakund route has garnered immense popularity among passengers. Traditionally, it operates exclusively during the monsoon season.
