Bhopal: PM Modi on his 72nd birthday this year will visit Kuno National Park in MP to launch the cheetah reintroduction program, said the MP Chief Minister on Tuesday. He further added that Cheetahs arriving from South Africa will be released in the national park in Sheopur district, the same day. A confirmation on his visit has also been released by the PMO, the CM further said.
The ‘African Cheetah Introduction Project in India’ was conceived in 2009 and a plan to introduce the big cat by November last year in KNP suffered a delay due to the pandemic. The KNP has a good prey for cheetahs. The last time the big cat was seen in the country in 1947 in present day Korea then MP and was declared extinct in 1952.
On the same day, the PM is also scheduled to address a function of women self-help groups at Karahal in Sheopur.
Preparations for the arrival of PM are in full- swing, officials said. At least seven helipads are being constructed in and around the KNP for the expected VVIP movement in the coming days.
