Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has decided today that rapists will have to remain in jail till their last breath. In a High Power Committee chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, it was decided that no remission or pardon will be given to the convicts of raping children twice, or those involved in terrorist incidents, or those convicted under TADA and POSCO Act. Further sellers of spurious liquor, drug dealers and peddlers, and foreign nationals convicted of committing crimes in the state shall not be exempted.
No relaxation in life imprisonment will be provided to the accused and the same shall be applied to gang rape convicts. No remission or pardon will be given to the convicts of raping children twice..The state government can withhold the release of such prisoners who are likely to endanger public peace, law and order.
The state governments have the right to give exemption from punishment to criminals with good conduct. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Gujarat has recently released the convicts of Bilkis Bano gangrape, giving them exemption on the basis of good conduct. However, the MP government has made it clear that no exemption is possible for rape convicts.
