KNP: The MP Forest Dept had denied allegations that the Cheetahs in KNP were fed the Spotted Deers from Rajasthan. Dismissing the reports, officials issued a clarification saying- No Chital has been brought from Rajasthan to MP because it requires the permission of the state and central govt. There are more than 20,000 chitals in Kuno National Park, so the news of bringing them outside is untrue.
On Tuesday, several media outlets reported that members of the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan, which is very active in wildlife conservation, had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, protesting against the alleged capture of chital by Forest Department officials to bolster prey numbers in the Kuno reserve. The committee had also staged a sit-in protest outside the mini secretariat in Haryana’s Fatehabad ad submitted a memorandum opposing the decision to the District Collector.
PM Modi on September 17th released 3 cheetahs into closed enclosures at the KNP out of the eight that were brought to Namibia under the Mission Cheetah aiming to bring back the big cat into the Indian wildlife ecosystem. The last Cheetah died in the country in 1974 in the Korea district in present-day CG earlier a part of MP and 70 years since then, the animal has been declared extinct.
