BHOPAL: A police station of NIA has been set up at Jahangirabad in Bhopal today. Currently, the old crime investigation department is being used as the office of the federal probe agency, however, a plan for setting up its centre permanently is underway.
With this the number of branches across the country rose to 13. As many as 50 officers from the state police will be deployed.
It is worth noting that Home Minister Narottam Mishra had earlier in December announced the establishment of the NIA office in Bhopal.
He had also added that a district-level committee in the chairmanship of the Collector has been constituted in all districts of Madhya Pradesh for the prevention of narcotics and other drugs. The representatives of various departments will be members of the committee.
The NIA is the primary counter terrorist task force of India. It is empowered to deal with investigation of terror related crimes across states without special permission from states under written proclamation from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The agency came into existence in 2008, with the enactment of the national Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the parliament of India in December 2008.
