UJJAIN: Ujjain in MP set a new Guinness world record by lighting 18.82 lakh earthen oil lamps on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Saturday.
Around 20,000 volunteers are said to have contributed to setting up the earthen beauty on the banks of Kshipra river. The event was organized by the local administration with the help of citizen groups.
Swapnil Dangarikar, Guinness World Records adjudicator, said the previous world record for the “largest display of oil lamps” was set at Ayodhya during Diwali 2022 when 15.76 lakh lamps were lit.
The diyas were lit for almost five minutes the adjudicator Swapnil said.
it is said that the local authorities targetted to lit around 21 lakh diyaS to mark the festival of Mahashivratri on Saturday. Last year, 11,71,078 lamps lit Ujjain on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
