Guna: A 38-year old tribal woman, Rampyari Bai, is battling for life after being set on fire by a group of people. Sources reveal that the woman had resisted their bid to encroach her family land in Guna area of Madhya Pradesh.

The victim had gone to police station a few days back, along with her husband, saying that she feared for their lives as some powerful men of the village wanted to grab their farmland. However, no action was taken by the local police. The victim has suffered 80% burns and is battling for life in hospital.

The victim had told doctors that three men of the village had poured diesel on her and set her on fire in the fields of Dhanoria village. She has named Pratap, Hanumat, and Shyam Kirar in the incident. Contrarily, the accused have claimed that she tried to immolate herself and was already in flames when they saw her.

Earlier on June 23, the victim’s husband, Arjun had submitted an application with the Superintendent of Police, claiming a threat to his life from the above named men. He had filed a complaint in Bamori Police Station as the accussed has earlier encroached upon 6 bighas of his land.
