Shahdol: A loco pilot was killed when two goods trains collided head-on Bilaspur division of South Eastern Railway (SECR) today morning. The two goods train collided due to signal overshoot near Singhpur Railway Station in Shahdol section.

The goods train derailed in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, disrupting traffic on Bilaspur-Katni rail route. “The derailment took place because of signal overshoot”, the official said without giving more details to the accident.

The engine of the trains caught fire after the collision. All trains on the Bilaspur-Katni route have been affected. The drivers are injured and two railway workers are feared trapped. Rescue operation is currently underway.

Incidents of train collision have become more frequent recently. In February this year, two goods train collided with each other near Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In the accident, nine empty bogies of the train overturned and many jumped off the track after which train routes were disrupted.
