Gwalior: Ashok Nagar BJP MLA Jajpal Singh alias Jajji has got a big relief from the double bench of the High Court. A week ago, a single bench had written to the assembly speaker urging the cancellation of the caste certificate of the MLA and nullifying his membership in the assembly. On this, the MLA had also filed an appeal writ. While hearing this, the double bench gave a stay on the order of the single bench, giving relief to the MLA.

Jajpal Singh from Ashoknagar Assembly is a staunch Scindia supporter. In the 2018 assembly elections, he contested on a Congress ticket from the Ashoknagar assembly seat reserved for Scheduled Castes. There he defeated BJP candidate Ladduram Kori. But in March 2020, after Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP, the Ashok Nagar MLA also rebelled against the Congress.

After this, in the by-election held in November 2020, he contested from Ashok Nagar on a BJP ticket and won. Presently he is MLA from BJP. After losing the election in the year 2018, Ladduram had filed a petition in the High Court against the caste certificate of Jajpal Singh.

During the hearing, GS Ahluwalia, a single bench judge of the High Court canceled the certificate finding it wrong. Along with this, Ashok Nagar SP was ordered to register an FIR against MLA Jajpal Singh. He also wrote to the assembly speaker to nullify the legislature.

Jajji had filed an appeal writ challenging the decision of the single bench of the High Court. The MLA’s lawyer Awadhesh Tomar said that the Ashok Nagar MLA had filed an appeal in a double bench on the order of a single bench. Giving interim relief, the double bench has given a stay. Now the MLA will get a chance to present his side in the matter.
