MHOW: The tribal girl who died under suspicious circumstances and the youth who allegedly died due to a bullet wound were cremated at their native places on Thursday morning. The tribal girl was cremated at her native village in Maheshwar tehsil of Khargone district, while the 18-year-old tribal youth, Bherulal was cremated at Jamgate village, situated about 25-kilometre from Mhow tehsil headquarters in Indore district under tight security.
The situation remained under control after protests broke out last night. The police cordoned off the entire old Mhow area (tribal area) as well as sealed old AB Road which passes through Mhow from 6 am.
Massive protests were reported on Wednesday late evening, as the news of the rape and murder surfaced. Angered members of the tribal community gathered around the Badgonda police station. Tear gas was and a lathi charge was used to control the crowd. Section 144 was imposed and a magisterial inquiry into the incident has been called for by Indore collector Dr. Illaiah Raja T. An ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh has also been announced to the family of the deceased Bherulal.
Meanwhile, an uproar is seen in the political arena. The opposition accused BJP leaders of protecting the culprits involved in the incident, senior Congress leader and MLA Kantilal Bhuria, said that Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar tried to give protection to the culprit involved in the incident, after which people got angry.
