Bhopal- Preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Mission-2023, are in full swing. Each one, the BJP and the Congress has taken a novel method of ticket allocation, depending entirely on surveys. This decision by the central leadership of both parties aims to secure political stability for the BJP and regain power for the Congress, reminiscent of their 2018 victory.

In a departure from the past, ticket allocation will no longer be based on the recommendations of top leaders. Instead, candidates will be selected based on survey results. If a candidate’s name ranks first in the average of the ticket distribution survey, their selection becomes final. The critical criterion for ticket distribution is the candidate’s potential to secure victory and attain a position of power.

The BJP and Congress have been preparing for this approach since the change in state power and the by-elections. Starting in 2021, both parties have conducted surveys of MLAs and contenders every three to four months. The recent decision by both parties to prioritize surveys in the ticket allocation process reinforces their commitment to this strategy.

This shift in ticket distribution underscores the parties’ focus on fielding candidates with the most vital chances of winning rather than merely favouring followers of top leaders. By prioritizing survey-based selection, the BJP and Congress aim to maximize their chances of success in the upcoming Assembly elections, ensuring that candidates with the potential to secure victory can represent their respective parties.

With Mission-2023 on the horizon, Madhya Pradesh is witnessing intense political preparations as the BJP and Congress strive to gain an advantage in the electoral battle. Implementing survey-based ticket distribution highlights the parties’ commitment to a more objective and data-driven approach, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election season.
