Madhya Pradesh: Former MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Thursday resigned as the Leader of Opposition in the MP Legislative assembly. The resignation has been duly accepted by the Congress High Command.
Sources report, Govind Singh would fill in the vacant seat.
Hours before his resignation, the senior Congress leader on Thursday, said the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh should pay heed to what the Centre says and cut VAT on fuel to provide relief to the people of the state.
“But the Shivraj government (MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan) is not listening to it. Now he should abide by the Centre’s advice to provide relief to the public,” the former state chief minister said.
The Shivraj government should reduce VAT imposed on petrol-diesel to provide relief to the people, the former leader of the opposition in the state Assembly said.
The remarks came after PM Modi on Wednesday urged opposition ruled states to reduce the VAT in ‘national interest’ to benefit the common man and uplift the spirit of cooperative federalism in the time of global crises.
Petrol in the SS Chauhan led state is retailed at Rs 103.54 per litre inclusive of State and Central Taxes. While diesel stood at Rs 101.15 per litre.
