Jabalpur: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has recovered a huge cache from the raid it conducted on an RTO officer in Jabalpur on Wednesday night. As per reports, the EOW had received complaints of possession of disproportionate assets against Santosh Paul- the regional transport officer in charge.
As per the information by EOW officials, possession of assets 650 times more than income was seized after the raid agency searched 3 places under the officer and his wife’s jurisdiction. The seized cache included Rs 16 lakh in cash, jewellery, and property documents.
“The raid was conducted at the RTO Officer’s 10,000 square feet house in the Shatabdipuram area of Jabalpur. “Besides, Paul also owns one 1,247 square feet house at Gwarighat Road, 1,150 square feet at Shankar Shah Ward, and two other similar residences in his name,” said one of the officials who conducted the raid pressing the reports.
Apart from these, it is learnt that the couple owned five houses, a farmhouse, a car, SUV and 2 two-wheelers. Following the raid, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
RTO official Santosh Paul and his wife Lekha Paul, who worked as a clerk in the RTO office, premises were on Wednesday night searched after a corruption complaint was filed. It stated that the couple had wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
