Mumbai: Emotions ran high as one of the sisters of 32-year-old Saraswati Vaidya, who was allegedly murdered and dismembered by her 56-year-old live-in partner Manoj Sane, broke down upon seeing a photograph of her sister’s long hair that the accused had cut and preserved on the kitchen platform of their flat. The Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar Police recorded statements from three of Ms. Vaidya’s sisters while investigating her tragic death.
The sisters confronted Manoj Sane for the first time since the murder, expressing their fury and urging the police to build a strong case to ensure he receives the strictest punishment. Upon seeing the photograph, one of the sisters became overwhelmed with grief, reminiscing how much Ms. Vaidya loved her long hair.
During the probe, the police examined Sane’s mobile phone. They discovered his regular consumption of pornography, along with a list of porn site names written on a piece of paper, which was recovered as evidence. Authorities plan to interrogate Sane in the presence of Ms. Vaidya’s sisters to thoroughly cross-examine his statements, as his account has been inconsistent despite hours of questioning each day.
Investigators found that after allegedly killing Ms. Vaidya, Sane took pictures of her body and conducted numerous Google searches to learn how to dispose of it. He even searched for methods to prevent the odor emitted by decomposing bodies and purchased five bottles of Nilgiri oil from a local store.
On June 4, the day of the murder, Sane bought an electric wood cutter from a hardware shop, which he used to dismember the body. When the saw’s chain broke, he returned to the same shop for repairs, cleverly concealing his actions by thoroughly cleaning the cutter.
