Indore: Indore, to deploy drones for transporting blood samples to lab partners. This announcement came after the Director of Civil Aviation got a ‘proof-of-concept’ permission for engaging drones in healthcare.

The first longest drone delivery of medical supplies was carried out by the ICMR Delhi and Outreach in North East (i-Drone) pilot project, which was launched in Nagaland’s Mokokchung in December last year. The parcel was carried from Mokokchung to Tuensang, covering an aerial distance of 40 kilometres in 28 minutes.

The advancement in logistics came after the world battled lockdown owing to the pandemic. With only 70 per cent of the population in rural areas, the sobering statistics highlighted the urgent need to address the country’s rural populations health care requirements.
