Bhopal: On September 15, 2023, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a scheme to deliver LPG cylinders to women in the state at a subsidized rate of Rs. 450 per cylinder. The scheme, which will be known as the “Madhya Pradesh Mukhyamantri Ujjwala Yojana”, is aimed at providing relief to women from the rising cost of LPG.
In a series of announcements, CM Chouhan confirmed the scheme on his official Twitter account.
Under the scheme, all women in Madhya Pradesh who have an Ujjwala Yojana connection will be eligible to receive a subsidy of Rs. 250 per LPG cylinder. This means that they will only have to pay Rs. 450 per cylinder, instead of the current market rate of around Rs. 700.
The Madhya Pradesh Mukhyamantri Ujjwala Yojana will be funded by the state government. The government has estimated that the scheme will cost around Rs. 1,000 crore per year.
The scheme has been welcomed by women’s groups and activists. They say that it will provide much-needed relief to women from the rising cost of living. With this, CM Chouhan also announced the Ladli Show.
The scheme is also expected to have a positive impact on the environment. By making LPG more affordable, the government hopes to encourage more people to switch from cooking with firewood and other traditional fuels. This will help to reduce air pollution and improve public health.
