Kuno: As the death tally increased to 3, another cheetak ‘Daksha’ translocated from South Africa died in Kuno National Park. JS Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh chief Conservator of Forest JS Chouhan informed that Daksha, a female cheetah was found wounded and could not be saved despite efforts of the medical team.
Two male cheetahs, Vayu and Agni were released from enclosure 7 for mating, but it appears that the male cheetahs turned violent during the process which was a normal thing.
On May 8, five cheetahs will released from the acclimatisation camps into free-ranging conditions before the onset of the monsoon in June.
Earlier in April, cheetah Uday brought from South Africa to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National park died during treatment after falling ill in April. Before this, Namibian cheetah Sasha died due to a kidney ailment on March 27. The African government has claimed that the death rate is normal for wild cats to settle in a new environment.
