Indore : The counting of votes for the first phase of Indore Civic body polls that concluded on July 6th are underway. The recent reports suggest that Bhartiya Janta Party has taken a massive lead in Indore and Gwalior. Early trends of counting show that the saffron party is leading in almost 8 out of 11 Municipal Corporations. In the first phase, the voting was done for 133 urban bodies in 49 districts of Madhya Pradesh. A total of 101 candidates are on the ground to contest on mayor’s post in 11 municipal corporations.
Good news for Aam Aadmi Party has arrived from Singrauli district where the party candidate has clinched a win. However, in an unfortunate incident a councillor Congress candidate from Rewa, Hari Narayan Gupta died of cardiac arrest after he lost the poll by just 14 votes. The ruling party, BJP has a clear majority as the party has won 12 out of 15 wards in Rajgarh municipality. The rest three were won by congress party.
Meanwhile, the voter turnout in 86 town councils in the first phase was recorded at 61 per cent. The second phase polls were held on July 13th and the result for the same will be out on July 20th.
