Betul, Madhya Pradesh: The Aathner Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the farm owner in connection with the death of eight-year-old Tanmay Sahu who fell in a borewell in Mandvi village of the district. SDOP Shivcharan Bohit said that eight-year-old Tanmay, son of Sunil Sahu had fallen into the borewell of Nanakram Chauhan’s farm located on Mandvi Junavani Road while playing in the village Mandvi of Aathner police station area, due to which he died.
The post-mortem report of the deceased child, the statement of the family members, and the investigation of the case have been taken into consideration for registering an offense under Section 304 against the farm owner Nanakram, son of Damdaya Chauhan who is a resident of Mandvi as well.
The administration has become strict after the death of Tanmay by falling into the open borewell in Mandvi. Collector Amanbir Singh Bains has instructed the sub-divisional revenue officers of the district to conduct an inquiry in the entire district and get the borewells lying open to be closed within a week.
He has said that the cost of closure of such borewells will have to be borne by the concerned borewell owner. The Collector has also said that after a week if the borewell is found open, an FIR will be lodged against the owner of the borewell under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. Along with this, a fine of ten thousand rupees will also be imposed.
Notably, 8-year-old Tanmay fell into the borewell while playing with his sister. A rescue operation of more than 80 hours could not save him finally. The MP govt has promised the family an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs.
