Indore: Madhya Pradesh police have arrested 7 persons involved in connection with the incident which took place on Saturday after a clash broke out between the girls’ families and the accused.
After the tussle in which five were injured, the family of the girl filed a complaint at the Kotwali Police station. Following the complaint, the accused were arrested on Monday under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, said Kotwali police station in-charge Avdhesh Kumar Shesha on Tuesday.
Initial investigation by the local tehsildar states that the attack was a result of an old enmity between the families and clarified that there was no issue of caste or dominance by any community.
As per reports, a group of upper caste members thrashed the family of a 16-year-old Dalit girl for allegedly sending her to school against their diktat in the Shajapur district of MP. The girl in her statement to the police stated that some people allegedly accosted her and snatched her bag and warned her of attending school and bet her cousins for about 20 minutes. Following this a war spurt between the upper caste men and the relatives of the girl in which five of her relatives were injured.
The video of the incident that took place on July 23 rd went viral on Monday evening. In the video Lathi wielding men are seen attacking the girl’s family and abusing them.
