Gwalior: Rivers are in spate resulting in a flood situation in low-lying areas of Madhya Pradesh. Monsoon is raining heavily in Gwalior-Chambal today. More than 50 trucks and dumpers who came to fill sand at the ghat got stranded and the administration has now banned the lifting of sand from the river till September. Drivers and conductors could barely save their lives.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rains in the Gwalior-Chambal division today. Expressing the possibility of heavy rains in Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Shivpuri, Bhind, Datia, Guna, and Ashoknagar, the district collectors have been asked to keep a strict watch on the low-lying areas of these districts. The Deputy Relief Commissioner has instructed the collectors to remain alert regarding the heavy rains in this division.
According to senior meteorologist, Ved Prakash Singh, due to the arrival of moisture from the Arabian Sea, Guna received over 2.5 inches of rainfall at night. In the past 24 hours, Datia 2.6 inches, Khajurao 1.8 inches, Ratlam 1.18 inches, Gwalior 0.96 inches, Rewa 0.8 inches rainfall was received. The department also said that the low pressure in the area has weakened, resulting in cyclonic activities.
The Monsoon Trough is extending through Bikaner, Jaipur, and Guna up to Satna i.e., from the South Gujarat coast parallel to Karnataka Coast. Earlier on Wednesday evening, the water level in the Sindh river increased suddenly in Bhind.
