BALAGHAT: A trainee pilot died and one is missing after a charter plane crashed in MPs Balaghat on Saturday. Search for the missing co-pilot is on, said Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh adding that the charred body of a man was found in the mountains of Lanji and Kirnapur areas, about 40 km from the Balaghat district headquarters, near the crash site.

Preliminary investigation revealed the trainer aircraft had taken off from the Birsi airport in the Gondia district of Maharashtra bordering Balaghat, and crashed in the dense forest of village Bhakkutola, under the jurisdiction of Kirnapur police station in the district, the police officer said.

Further investigation is underway to identify the body and unearth the cause of the crash.
