New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress Members in the National Capital held a torchlight march against Lakhimpur Kheri violence today evening.
Earlier on Saturday, the youth Congress had clashed with the Delhi Police as they protested over the deaths of eight people in Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The social media flooded with visuals showing dozens of people holding placards, shouting slogans and jumping on burning effigies. Following which Ashish Mishra son of State Home Affairs was called for questioning by the UP Police officials, which he skipped leaving the police waiting for three hours.
On Monday 11th October, Ashish Mishra was arrested and sent to three-day custody after being questioned for over 12 hours. His arrest came five days after he was named in a murder case filed by farmers who witnessed the run by the minister’s son.
Congress party across several states held protests presenting solidarity with the bereaved families and demanding the arrest of the accused Minister’s son Ashish Mishra. The protest in Rajasthan was led by state unit president Govind Singh Dotsara on Thursday, October 7th. A similar candlelight march was held in Chandigarh on October 4th.
