Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have got into a heated political exchange over the three-language policy debate in the state of Tamil Nadu. Strongly reacting to Adityanath’s remarks, Stalin accused the BJP leader of getting involved in political black comedy on Thursday and trying to misrepresent Tamil Nadu’s stance over language and regional identity.
On X (formerly Twitter), Stalin writes: “Tamil Nadu’s fair and firm voice on #TwoLanguagePolicy and #FairDelimitation is ringing across the country, with the BJP clearly uncomfortable. Just watch their leaders’ interviews. And now, Hon’ble Yogi Adityanath has something to impart to us on hate? Spare us. This isn’t ironic; this is the politics of black comedy, which is the darkest.”
Stalin pointed out that the issue is not about election politics but dignity and justice, and Stalin reiterated that Tamil Nadu does not oppose any language but resists its imposition. “We don’t oppose any language, we oppose imposition and chauvinism.” This isn’t riot-for-votes politics. He called it a battle for dignity and justice.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, had earlier accused Stalin of dividing the country on the lines of language and regional issues for political gains during his interview with a news agency, which, in turn, prompted his remarks. Stating that Tamil is one of the oldest languages of India and that Hindi has nothing to do with it, Adityanath asked why there should be opposition to Hindi.
“There should not be division of the country on the basis of language or region. Prime Minister Modi ji also organized the third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi to celebrate Tamil’s rich heritage. There is no doubt that all Indians respect Tamil, we all respect Sanskrit. Therefore, why should we hate Hindi?” Adityanath remarked.
He accused the DMK of resorting to ‘narrow politics’ to stir linguistic and regional divisions whenever it senses its vote bank is being hit.
