An individual made negative comments on social media about Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, the recipient of the Kirti Chakra awards. In reaction to the comment, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has filed a letter to Delhi Police requesting that the individual must be subjected to immediate and appropriate action. The comment appears next to the post of Mrs. Singh at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she received her husband’s honor. Her husband passed away in an Indian Army camp in the Siachen glacier while attempting to save his fellow soldiers.
President Droupadi Murmu handed the posthumous honor to Captain Singh’s wife, smriti and his mother.
While many people paid heartfelt tribute to the soldier, one person made a disrespectfull remark that NCW termed “lewd” in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.
The commission further stated that the statement made by Ahmad K, a Delhi resident, violates both Section 67 of the Information Technology Act of 2000 and Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The women’s panel stated on X that “NCW condemns this behavior and urges immediate police action.”
The man must be taken into custody, and NCW has instructed the police to provide a thorough report in three days. Numerous people tagged the NCW and demanded that the individual and those who shared the screenshots of the comment will face harsh consequences.
