Manali: Women IPS officers are pivotal in leading the rescue and relief operations in flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh. The districts of Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra, which have been severely affected by heavy rainfall and floods, are being managed by women Superintendents of Police (SPs). These officers, namely SP Sakshi Verma Karthikeyan in Kullu, SSP Soumya Sambasivan in Mandi, and SP Shalini Agnihotri in Kangra, have been actively involved in tackling the crisis head-on.
The three IPS officers have shown remarkable courage and dedication by personally leading the operations on the ground, even amidst hazardous conditions. Their presence and leadership have been crucial in coordinating rescue efforts and providing relief to affected communities.
In Kullu district, which encompasses important subdivisions like Manali, Banjar, and Manikaran, the devastation caused by heavy rainfall and flash floods has been extensive. In the Manikaran subdivision, specifically in the Sainj Valley and Kasol, popular tourist destinations, SP Sakshi Verma Karthikeyan took the initiative to airdrop satellite phones via helicopters. These areas had become completely isolated and inaccessible, with no electricity, mobile connectivity, or functional wireless sets. By providing satellite phones, the SP aimed to establish vital communication channels with the stranded individuals and ensure their safety.
Facing immense challenges, women SPs manoeuvre treacherous terrain, tackle unpredictable weather conditions, and contend with limited resources. Their ability to think swiftly and make decisive choices plays a pivotal role in effectively managing the crisis at hand. These officers shine brightly as symbols of hope for affected communities as they tirelessly undertake rescue operations for stranded individuals, distribute vital supplies, and strive to reinstate normalcy in disaster-hit regions.
As the weather forecasts predict heavy rainfall in Kangra district, these officers remain on high alert, prepared to face any new challenges. Their exemplary leadership and dedication inspire their colleagues and the public alike, highlighting the invaluable contribution of women in critical roles within the police force.
