New Delhi: Women empowerment is one of the top priorities of my Govt, said Ramnath Kovind on Monday. In a joint address to both the houses of the parliament, President Ramnath Kovind laid down major achievements of the nation under Modi Govt.
Underscoring the importance of women and their progress in India, he spoke about the Ujjwala Yojana and the Mudra Yojana that have paved success for women entrepreneurs in India. He also applauded the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign set up the centre.
Sainik Schools that long-awaited approval for Girl’s admission was also illustrated in his speech. He expressed joy on girls being granted admission in Sainik Schools after the govt approved entry to the women cadets at the National Defence Academy. The first batch of which would commence from June 2022. Nearly 33 Sainik schools across the nation have begun taking applications for girls.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana launched under the Modi govt in 2016, aimed to distribute 50 million LPG connections to women below the poverty line. The scheme is used as a tool for women empowerment as LPG connections and clean cooking fuel can reduce cooking time and effort to fulfil the responsibility solely shouldered by the women. The scheme also employs the rural youth in the supply chain of cooking gas. A year ago in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana.
Was launched. Under this scheme loans, up to 10 lakhs to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises were provided. These loans are classified as MUDRA loans under PMMY. Under the aegis of PMMY, MUDRA has created three products namely ‘Shishu’, ‘Kishore’ and ‘Tarun’ to signify the stage of growth/development and funding needs of the beneficiary micro unit/entrepreneur and also provide a reference point for the next phase of graduation/growth.
