Lakhimpur Kheri: A witness in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was allegedly shot by two unidentified assailants, the police officials said on Wednesday. Experts will examine the crime spot and furnish a detailed report it added.
Witness Dilbagh Singh the BKU president was returning home via Aliganj-Muda road in the Gola Kotwali area on Tuesday night when his SUV was trailed by bikers who opened fire at him., however, sustained no injuries in the attack, sources confirmed.
Singh is one of the key witnesses in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident where eight including four farmers and a journalist were rammed by an SUV owned by Ashish Mishra.
The attack on the witness has gained political mileage, the opposition party has targetted the state authorities for the attack on DIlbag Singh.
Singh in a media interaction said the assailants punctured a tyre of his SUV, forcing him to stop his vehicle.
“The assailants attempted to open the doors and windows of the SUV. After they failed, they fired two shots at the windowpane on the driver’s side,” he alleged, adding that he was travelling alone.
Sensing the intentions of the assailants, Singh said he folded his seat and ducked. He said the assailants could not figure out whether he was shot or not as the windows of his SUV were covered with dark film.
An FIR has been lodged at the Gota Kotwali PS soon after the incident was reported.
