Lucknow: Facing charges of sexual harassment by national-level grapplers, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP’s Gonda MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh held a 25-km roadshow before addressing a rally in Gona today. The rally was organized as a part of the BJP campaign to mark the completion of nine years of BJP rule under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi.
Starting from his residence in Vishnopur and spanning all the way to Raghuraj Sharan Singh degree college in Colonelganj where the rally was organized. Comprising of a long cavalcade of SUVs, a surging crowd of supporters, Singh’s roadshow was catalyzed by the support from a host of BJP MLAs in Gonda and nearby districts.
On Saturday, Sakshi Malik told media that there is huge pressure on complainants to compromise. She further added that the minor was among the seven wrestlers accusing WFI President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, and was forced to change her statement under pressure.
Following a lengthy 6.5-hour meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on June 8, wrestlers throughout India have collectively decided to suspend their protests until June 15 temporarily. The demonstrations were triggered by the government’s funding cuts towards wrestling, as well as the inadequate provision of infrastructure and training facilities for athletes.
