New Delhi: Delhi continued to be immersed in flood water on Sunday as traffic snarls, and waterlogging continues to affect millions in the capital. Delhi Police issued an advisory wherein it was advised that commuters avoid Khan Market, Teen Murti round-about, GGR-PDR, A-Point to W-Point, Kamla Express Building, Khanpur T-point, Andrews Ganj, Bhairon Marg’s under railway bridge as these areas remain severely waterlogged.
The heavy rainfall and floods have given another jolt to the tourism business in the hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh which was recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to an official statement, 91 people lost their lives from June 24 to July 13 in Himachal owing to the torrential rainfall. This year’s flooding began with tropical cyclone Biparjoy hitting the western Indian coast, ripping trees, and toppling electricity poles. While all of northwest India is flooded, it is also to be remembered that nearly half a million people in northeast India were affected by severe flooding, turning roads into rivers and submerging entire villages. More than 495000 spread across 22 districts in the state of Assam and about 14000 were evacuated to relief camps after torrential rainfall, resulting in river Beki to overflow.
