Kolkata, West Bengal: Kolkata High Court Justice Abhijit Ganguly expressed his displeasure with the CBI investigation into the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment corruption case. He also changed the seat of the CBI in the Group-D and Group-C recruitment cases on Wednesday. Two officials of the Central Investigation Agency were removed from the bench. Instead, 4 new members of CBI were brought to the reformed bench.
Significantly, on Wednesday, Justice Ganguly brought in former CBI DIG Akhilesh Singh to head the reconstituted bench. He instructed the concerned authorities should send Akhilesh to Kolkata within 7 days, no matter wherever he is! Earlier, Dharambir Singh, Satyendra Singh, KC Rishinamul, Somnath Biswas, Malay Das, and Imran Ashiq were placed in the CBI seat.
KC Rishinamul and Imran Ashiq are the two officers who were removed from the bench by the HC Justice. The 4 new members are Deputy SP Anshuman Saha and Inspectors Vishwanath Chakraborty, Pradeep Tripathi, and Wasim Akram Khan. They will work under the leadership of Akhilesh.
Meanwhile, the CBI lawyer told the court that former DIG Akhilesh is no longer working in the state. He has been transferred to Delhi. Justice Ganguly, however, ordered that the CBI officer should be sent to Kolkata, especially to investigate the SSC scam cases.
Expressing his displeasure over the inefficiency of the CBI bench, Justice Ganguly said, “The CBI is working very slowly in the school recruitment corruption case. A CBI probe was ordered last November. The bench was formed in June. A total of 542 people were accused of taking jobs illegally in Group D. The CBI has so far interrogated only 16 people. That is, less than 5 percent.”
Notably, eminent TMC leader Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee have been behind the bars since the ED raided and found crores of cash from their residences and offices. They have been involved in the SSC recruitment scam and a case is registered against them by the Enforcement Directorate.
