MOGA: Pro Khalistani supremo Amritpal Singh, who has been on thre run since March 18th surrendered before Punjab police in Moga. He has been arrested by the police. Sources state he will be taken to the central jail in Dibrugrah, Assam.
Confirming the arrest, Punjab Police asked people to maintain peace and not spread fake news. “Amritpal Singh arrested in Moga, Punjab. Further details will be shared by Punjab Police. Urge citizens to maintain peace and harmony, Don’t share any fake news, always verify and share,” police tweeted.
As per reports he surrendered in a Gurudwara in Rode village in Moga district. It is worth noting that hunt for the separatist leader was on for nearly five years.
According to sources, the Punjab Police was making plans for his detainment since late last night. A video surfaced that showed him addressing a gathering in Rodewal gurdwara in Moga’s Rode village before surrendering.
Amritpal has been facing cases under the Indian Penal Code regarding spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.
So far eight associates of Amritpal and his outfit have been shifted to the Dibrugarh jail. All of them have been booked under the NSA. On March 18 the Punjab Police arrested 78 persons and launched a hunt for Amritpal in connection with multiple criminal cases. The action came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, demanding the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan.
