Kaushambi: A wanted criminal with a bounty of Rs. 1 lakhs, identified as Gufran was killed in an encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district early morning. Gufran was shot dead after an exchange of fire at 5 AM, after which he was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to UP Police, a special task force team conducted a raid at 5AM in Kaushabi district where Gufran confronted the team and opened fire. Following this, cops retaliated and in the ensuing cross-firing, he was shot dead and injured.
Gufran was wanted in over 13 cases including murder, attempted murder, and robbery in Pratapgarh and other districts of UP. This is the latest in a series of encounters between UP Police and criminals. Since Yogi Adityanath became chief minister of the state in 2017, there have been over 10,900 encounters, in which over 185 criminals have been killed.
In the last 6 years, the number of police firing to injure has gone up to 5046 more than 30 alleged criminals being shot dead and injured every 15 days. In the lost of 186 killed in police encounters, as many as 96 criminals faced murder cases, two of whom faced cases of molestation and ganag rape, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, reveal records.
