Hyderabad: Voting has started today at 7 am for 119 assembly seats in Telangana. A total of 2,290 candidates are in the fray in the state. Whose fate will be decided by more than 3.26 crore voters of the state today in EVMs. Earlier in the elections held in 2018, BRS had won 88 out of 119 assembly seats. Now it is trying to come to power for the third consecutive time, while both Congress and BJP are trying to gain power.
35,655 polling stations have been set up in the state. Of these, more than 12 thousand polling stations have been declared sensitive. The Election Commission has made extensive preparations in the state to ensure fair and free voting. A total of 375 companies of Central Armed Forces, 50 companies of Telangana Special Police, 45 thousand state police and 23,500 home guards from neighboring states have been deployed to ensure peaceful voting. Meanwhile, more than two lakh 5 thousand personnel have been deployed for election duty.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission has suspended three Telangana Police officers. These police officers are accused of allegedly weakening the case in the cash seizure case during the Code of Conduct. Cash, liquor and other goods worth about Rs 737 crore were seized in Telangana.
According to information, the value of cash, precious metals, liquor and other valuables seized on Tuesday has increased to more than Rs 737 crore. Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state, officials have seized more than Rs 301 crore in cash without proper documents. Apart from this, the officials have also seized liquor worth Rs 124 crore, precious metals worth more than Rs 186 crore, valuable gifts worth more than Rs 83 crore and medicines worth more than Rs 39 crore.
