Manipur– On Thursday morning, armed groups in Manipur’s N Boljang neighborhood of Imphal unleashed a sudden attack on two soldiers, resulting in their injuries. The soldiers, who were fired upon without warning, are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in good health, as confirmed by Army officials. In response to the incident, security forces promptly initiated a search operation in the area and successfully recovered an INSAS light machine gun.

Before this incident, another Indian Army soldier was injured in an unprovoked firing by armed miscreants from Kanto Sabal towards Chingmang village during the night of June 18-19. The wounded soldier was promptly evacuated to the Military Hospital Leimakhong and is currently in stable condition.

Amidst ongoing incidents of violence and arson, the state government of Manipur has extended the internet ban by an additional five days until June 25, with immediate effect. This decision aims to curb further disruption to peace in the region. The prohibition of data services has been implemented due to the persisting unrest in Manipur.

The violence in Manipur erupted on May 3 during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list. The state continues to witness sporadic incidents, prompting authorities to take measures to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of its residents.
