New Delhi: The contentious farm laws that drawn huge protests and dialogue over an year now will be withdrawn informed PM Modi ia surprise announcement today while addressing the nation at 9 am.
His statement, “We have decided to repeal all three farm laws. We will start the constitutional process to repeal all the three laws in the parliament session that starts at the end of this month, took the nation by surprise.” He informed reconsiderartion of the farm laws in the upcoming parliament session.
Furthermore, he requested the farmers to withdraw their protests and return home.Modi asserted on the measures taken by the centre to strengthen the agricultural industry and benefit the farmers. ” We worked to providing farmers with seeds at reasonable rates and facilities like micro-irrigation, 22 crore soil health cards. Such factors have contributed to increased agriculture production. We strengthened Fasal Bima Yojana, brought more farmers under it, he further added.”
According to PM Modi, nearly ₹1.25 lakh crore are being spent annually which stands to be a five fold rise so far.
This announcement came on the ocassion of Guru Purab, when Sikhism founder Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary is celebrated across India, primarily in the poll bound state Punjab. The decision was welcomed by several opposition parties as the farmers rejoiced their victory.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting since President Kovind approved the three farm laws for implementation. States like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been actively holding agitations in Delhi demanding the withdrawal of the ‘black laws’. The farmer protests were unrelenting despite several rounds dialogues with the centre, disruptions in parliament and Supreme Court hearings.
