New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to AIIMS hospital in New Delhi early Sunday after experiencing uneasiness and chest pain, reports claim.

The 73-year-old was brought to the hospital around 2 am and admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) under the care of Dr. Rajiv Narang, Head of the Cardiology Department at AIIMS. He is stable and under observation, a source said, adding a group of doctors is monitoring his condition.

Union Health Minister J P Nadda visited AIIMS to enquire about Dhankhar’s condition.

Earlier on March 8, Jagdeep Dhankar took to his social media account on X to wish women on International Women’s Day. He wrote, “Greetings on International Women’s Day! Women are the backbone of our society, driving transformative change with resilience, dedication and leadership”.

Who Is Jagdeep Dhankhar

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the 14th Vice President of India, is a distinguished lawyer, politician, and statesman. He has held various positions in the judiciary, legislature, and executive branches of government before becoming the Governer of Bengal in July 2019. Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1951, in a rural village in Rajasthan, India. He graduated from the University of Rajasthan with a law degree in 1978. Dhankhar embarked on a successful legal career, establishing himself as a prominent advocate in the Supreme Court of India. His expertise in various areas of law, including constitutional matters, commercial disputes, and international arbitration, gained him widespread recognition.

Dhankhar’s foray into politics began in 1989 when he was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu Parliamentary Constituency in the year 1989. He also served as a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in 1990. He was also elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Kishangarh Constituency in Ajmer district in the year 1993-1998. In 2019, Dhankhar assumed the role of Governor of West Bengal on 30 July 2019 , a crucial position that required him to act as the constitutional head of the state. His tenure ended on 18 July 2022. In August 2022, Dhankhar was elected as the 14th Vice President of India, a position that places him second in the line of succession to the President.
