Vice President Election Today: Voting for the Vice President election will be held today. Voting will be held from 10 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will begin at 6 pm. The result is expected to come late tonight. In the Vice President election, NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan and the opposition (India Alliance)’s B. Sudershan Reddy are face to face. Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Modi has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the Vice President election.
Whip is not issued for Vice Presidential election and secret voting takes place. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs vote in Vice Presidential election. Nominated MPs of Rajya Sabha also vote in it. On white ballot papers, MPs will mark the priority (1, 2, 3…) in front of the names of the candidates with a pen with special ink.
Voting will be held from 10 am to 5 pm in Room No. F-101, Vasudha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will cast his vote at 10 am. Before the voting for the Vice Presidential election begins, all NDA MPs will attend a breakfast meeting at 9:30 am. Senior ministers of the Central Government will host MPs from their respective states. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will hold a breakfast meeting with MPs from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh at his residence. Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will host MPs from Rajasthan. Similarly, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai will host NDA MPs from Bihar.
Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Modi has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the Vice-Presidential election. Voting will be secret under the Single Transferable Proportional Representation system. On white ballot papers, MPs will mark the priority (1, 2, 3…) against the names of the candidates with a pen with special ink. Postal ballots are allowed only for MPs in preventive detention (like Sheikh Abdul Rashid and Amritpal Singh), provided there is a certificate from the jail in-charge.
