Washington: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is set to meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington. This meeting comes against the backdrop of a dispute between India and Canada regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on soil earlier this year.

This week, Jaishankar and Blinken had a meeting during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York, where the India-Canada crisis was not a central focus, according to the US State Department.

The spokesperson for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, chose not to comment on the agenda for the meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken. However, he confirmed that the US had urged India to cooperate with Canada’s investigation into Nijjar’s killing.

Miller stated that he did not want to reveal details of their discussions but emphasized that they have already raised this issue with their counterparts and encouraged them to collaborate with authorities.”During a speech, at the Council for Foreign Relations in New York, Jaishankar restated India’s stance regarding the accusations put forth by Canada emphasizing that India does not partake in activities as a matter of policy and principle. In reply, Blinken expressed worry over the allegations made by the Prime Minister and emphasized the significance of holding individuals accountable.”
