The United States Embassy in India has on Wednesday issued a stern warning on the behalf of international students reminding them that any infringement of US laws would lead to severe immigration repercussions, including deportation and loss of visa.
In a formal statement posted on X the embassy underlined the fact that all visa holders have no choice but to comply with the American laws. Violating the laws of the U.S may greatly affect your student visa. The statement said that in case of your arrest or breaking any laws, your visa might be cancelled, you might be deported and cannot be entitled to get any future U.S visas. It was highlighted by the embassy that the US visa is not a right, but an opportunity that is granted under certain conditions.
The caution is a reminder to thousands of Indian students who are already studying in the United States and other students intending to visit the country to get higher education. Authorities emphasized that the tiniest legal problems or arrests can provoke the process of immigration inspections, which can impact a student in his/her future life and possibility to stay in the country.
This is an advisory following a similar admonition given to applicants and H-1B and H-4 work visa holders last week. In the said communication, the embassy said that acts of breaking US immigration laws may attract harsh punishments such as criminal prosecution, cancellation of visa and permanent prohibitions to the country.
The newest warning is regarded within the framework of the new attention to immigration enforcement by the US government. In the current Donald Trump-led regime, the government has strengthened its screening of visa applications, strengthened the compliance checks and escalated action to illegal immigration. The student visa procedure has also been put under scrutiny with authorities encouraging the applicants to abide by the conditions of their residence.
