New Delhi: Union ministers Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and RCP Singh on Wednesday resigned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet.

The resignation of Naqvi who headed the minority affairs ministry, came amidst the buzs of contesting for upcoming Presidential post on August 6th.

Both ministers submitted their resignations to fulfil the constitutional obligation as they will cease to be parliamentarians from Friday.

Mr Naqvi and Rajnath Singh are the only two ministers in PM Modi’s government who were also in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led-BJP government.The ruling party has been discussing a representative of a minority community for the second highest constitutional post, especially at a time the BJP is facing an unprecedented backlash over the Prophet Muhammad comments by suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Venkaiah Naidu is scheduled to end his term as the President of the country on August 6th.
