New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya arrives at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday to assess Kerala’s COVID-19 Strategy.
He is scheduled to meet CM Pinarayi Vijayan and State Health Minister Veena George and also visit the Govt. Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram.
Mandaviya’s visit comes two weeks after he communicated with CM Pinarayi over rising infections in the state.
Seeking the state government’s cooperation in managing the pandemic, the Union health minister also wrote to Vijayan, urging him to take more proactive measures to control the spread of the virus.
Though the state accounted for over 50 per cent of the cases in India, the State Health minister on Saturday said that the pandemic situation is not in a panic mode and the administration is taking the best possible measures to contain the spread.
As per the data released by the state health bulletin on Sunday, four districts- Malappuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Ernakulum recorded more than 2000 cases. Over 1, 79,155 active cases have been recorded so far in the state. 20,089 recuperated in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,49,23,67. With 102 deaths the state has observed 18,601 so far. On Monday, 18, 582 infections were detected, reported the state health department.
Union health minister Mandaviya is also likely to visit Assam on Tuesday to review the pandemic situation and will hold a review meeting in Guwahati.
