A controversy emerged when a statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the patron of the Samajwadi Party (SP), was erected at the party’s office without authorization. The statue, which stood six feet tall and was placed on a platform to the Nagar Palika Parishad office, had been installed by Virendra Yadav, the district president.
The situation escalated as the body of Nagar Palika Parishad took notice of this unauthorized installation. On September 23rd, they issued a notice to Virendra Yadav. Also posted it at the entrance of the SP office. The notice specified that within 24 hours, the party needed to remove the statue; otherwise, legal action would be taken.
Virendra Yadav, the district president, chose not to comment on this matter. However, Alaknkar Singh, who serves as SP District Vice President, shed some light on what transpired. Singh explained that party members collectively raised Rs 10 lakh to commission the creation of this statue. He also mentioned that due to pressure from authorities following the notice being issued by Nagar Palika Parishad, they voluntarily removed the statue on September 23rd.
Vinod Kumar Solanki, Executive Officer of Nagar Palika Parishad, clarified that initially, the SP office was formed by merging eight designated shops. However, unauthorized construction occurred without permission in terms of adding a hall and a room. Solanki made it clear that installing statues requires approval.
Consequently, the statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav was later taken down, putting an end to the disagreement. This incident highlights the importance of following protocols and obtaining permissions for any construction or installation work in both public and private locations.
