On Wednesday, police officers killed two terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in an exchange in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. This anti-terror operation involved the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The killed terrorists are known to be commanders of JeM, Mavi, and Zubair. The bodies were retrieved, and sources indicated that security forces found an AK-47 rifle and an M4 carbine belonging to them.
As authorities put it, the move was instigated by certain intelligence reports that there were terrorists in the Jophar Forest region of the Udhampur district. The terrorists had been found in a natural cave in the Jaffer forest of Ramnagar, at around 4 pm on Tuesday. Shortly after the security troops got in touch, a raging gun battle ensued, and it took more than an hour.
According to the officials, fire was again momentarily resumed at approximately 7:30 pm when the terrorists, on the verge of escape, took advantage of the darkness to flee. Security forces, however, managed to stop the effort. Considering the circumstances, more Army reinforcements involving elite paratroopers and a dog squad were hurried in the region in order to tighten the cordon and enhance the search effort.
No gunfire was reported all night since security forces had taken a tight cordon and were ready to stage a final assault. Wednesday morning saw a coordinated, well-timed process being carried out with the result in the end of both terrorists.
This was known as Operation Kiya, and it revealed excellent coordination and tactical precision by the various agencies involved in the operation. Connection with terrorists was achieved yesterday, and since then, they have not been allowed to lose the connection. Security officials added that after a coordinated attack, two terrorists had been killed.
The search activities in the environs are tracking to eliminate the existence of other militants.
