Kolkata: Two second-year students from Jadavpur University were apprehended on Sunday in connection with the death of an 18-year freshman. It is believed that the freshman tragically jumped from the second-floor hostel balcony on August 9, as informed by the Kolkata police.
The two alleged culprits, Dipsekhar Dutta, an economics major from Bankura district and Manotosh Ghosh, who is pursuing sociology from Hooghly district, were. Detained after questioning that lasted throughout the night. Prior to this, Sourav Chowdhury, a student of the university who had completed his MSc in Mathematics last year but was unlawfully staying in the hostel, was arrested. The authorities have ordered that all three individuals remain in police custody until August 22.
Vineet Goyal, Kolkata’s police commissioner, addressed the media, stating, “At present three individuals have been taken into custody. Our experienced officers are overseeing this investigation.” He further added, “Our goal is to conclude this investigation.”
Ghosh and Dutta came under scrutiny when Chowdhury implicated them. An unnamed ranking police official mentioned that both students were apprehended after inconsistencies were found in their statements.
The unfortunate incident involved a scholar from Nadia district in West Bengal. It is reported that he fell from the balcony of the main hostel building late on Wednesday night. Tragically he was found in a state without any clothes. Covered in blood. He sadly passed away Thursday morning while receiving treatment.
Considering the nature of this incident, authorities are investigating instances of sexual harassment to uncover the complete truth behind this deeply unsettling event.
