Himachal: Recent landslides in Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh reported two deaths and around 30 are speculated to be buried under the rubble. The landslide took place on the Reckong Peo-Shimla Highway in Kinnaur at around 12 pm.

According to sources, a  state run bus and several local vehicles have been struck by the landslide . The bus, travelling To Shimla, had 40 passengers on board. The local police said 25-30 people were trapped or buried. State Disaster Management Force Director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said at least nine persons were pulled out of the rubble in an injured condition during the initial hours of the rescue operation.

On command of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, an NDRF Team was called in. “I’ve directed the police and the local administration to carry out rescue operations. NDRF has also been put on alert. We have received information that one bus and a car could have been hit. We are waiting for detailed information,” Mr Thakur  said. Additionally, teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)  were also deployed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Mr Thakur and assured him of all possible help.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued an alert for heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh for the next three days. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in the plains and central mountainous parts of the state on August 12, 13, and 14.
