In a major diplomatic breakthrough, U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “ full and immediate ceasefire” after intense talks orchestrated by the United States. Uploading the news on his social media offering, Truth Social, Trump reported the news after a night (in his words) of negotiations that sought to cool down the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
“After long talks organized by the US, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted. He congratulated both nations for demonstrating “common sense and great intelligence” in bringing the situation to a diplomatic conclusion. “Congratulations to both Countries on applying Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
This ceasefire announcement is a bit implausible during a heated period of increasing military conflict, including drone strikes, artillery shelling, and civilian casualties across the Line of Control (LoC) and other border areas. Events had brought international alarm, following strike reports against religious sites and civilian zones, public safety alarms, and blackouts, partly in Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat.
Diplomatic sources point to the ceasefire deal being negotiated with strong U.S. engagement and with a sense of urgency that testifies to Washington’s ongoing interest in securing regional stability in South Asia. The deal allegedly contains promises from both sides to terminate all hostile actions immediately and the creation of military hot lines to foster communication and transparency from here on out.
