Tokyo: Shooter Manish Narwal won India’s current third gold medal at the Paralympics and compatriots Singolaji Adana took silver at Event P4 Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 on Saturday.
Narwal, 19, shot a total of 218.2 shots, setting a Paralympic record and won the gold medal. Adana, who won the bronze medal in the SH1 men’s 10-meter P1 air pistol on Tuesday, added a silver to his kitty with the effort of 216.7. In the process, both of them together raised India’s ranking to 15 at the 2020 Paralympic Games.
At the beginning of the qualifying round, Adana advanced to the Medal Tournament with a score of 536, while Navarre advanced to seventh place at the Asaka Shooting Range with a score of 533.
Chinese shooter Xiagolong Lou and ROC’s Sergey Malyshev, competed with Singhraj and Manish for the highest podium, ranking fourth and third with 7.5 and 8.5 shots respectively.
Another Indian, Akash, failed to reach the final and ranked 27th in the qualifying round. With a pistol held in one hand, athletes in the SH1 category have disabilities affecting the arms and/or legs, for example, amputation or spinal cord injury. P4 is the ranking for the 50 m mixed air pistol event. Some shooters compete in a seated position, while others aim for a standing position as defined in the regulation
